Right to health and access to medicines

Too many people, adults and children, are dying around the world of diseases that are preventable and treatable, often for no other reason than their poverty, lack of access to adequate and affordable health services, poor water and sanitation, poor housing conditions, etc. Non-communicable and chronic diseases are on the rise because of unhealthy life conditions and lifestyles and also because of climate changes around the world.

Too many people, children and adults, die in the world because of conflicts and wars. The gap in life expectancy between rich and poor countries is huge and intolerable.

Health inequities are increasing both within and between countries. These inequities are not inevitable; they are the dramatic consequences of distributive injustice and policy failure worldwide. AIDS is still among the greatest development and security issues facing the world today. The COVID-19 pandemic killed many people, disrupted health systems, impoverished nations and people and increased food insecurity around the world. This pandemic has also shown the fragility of our world and the lack of solidarity when it is most needed to access treatment and preventive measures. The pandemic has widened inequalities between and within nations, and proved the inability of many governments to work together for the well-being of the entire human family.

APG23 is committed to the care, welcome and support of people with different needs (impoverished, disabled, orphans, malnourished children, trafficked women, migrants, etc ). Thanks to these commitments, APG23, by sharing life with people in need, fights for the full realization of the right to health and access to medicine for all.
