Older people
From 1995 APG23 has been supporting actions to promote a culture that recognises older persons as an indispensable part of society and of the family. It has been working to ensure that older people are able to stay in their own homes, within their family of origin or in a foster family therefore avoiding the admission in care homes, combatting loneliness and live a life full of relationships.
COVID-19 pandemic has unveiled in many countries the institutionalized living situation of older people. The structural loneliness and feeling of isolation that many of the older people lived especially in developed countries has struck the attention of the public and revealed situations that will need to be addressed.
APG23 continues to advocate for the rights of older persons at international level, while engaging in awareness-raising event and publishing books and videos aimed at promoting a culture that recognises elderly people as an integral and necessary part of families and societies.
