2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a global plan of action for people, planet and prosperity, approved on 25 September 2015 by the UN General Assembly and signed by the 193 Member Countries of the United Nations.
The 2030 Agenda sets out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 related targets to be achieved in the environmental, economic and social domains by 2030.
The ambitious nature and vision of the 2030 Agenda derive by the convergence in 2015 of two key international agendas related to development and environment: the Post-2015 Development Agenda, based on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were in place from 2000 to 2015, and the process emerged from the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development that took place in 2012.
The Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda are grounded in human rights and define a universal and integrated framework for development and social, economic and environmental sustainability involving all countries and components of society.
As APG23, we contribute to the achievement of the SDGs at different levels of action and with a wide range of projects and initiatives both on the field and through advocacy activities. At the UN level, we participate in monitoring and follow-up processes for the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and advocate especially for the strengthening of accountability and the mainstreaming of human rights, with a particular focus on the right to development.
